I just purchased your plugin and it seems to be exactly what I need. However, I can't get it to work. I have installed and published the plugin.
I have added a text field - cb_regcode to my registration form. The field shows up on the form as expected. I want to use a text field and not a dropdown or checkboxes because new users need to obtain the registration code to limit registration to certain individuals.
Here is my rule:
cb_regcode;regcode_test;Candidate;true
Will the plugin work with a text field or am I doing something else wrong?

Hi Gwen,
you are right, Auto Group doesn't care about CB field type, just its value.
Looking at your settings:
cb_regcode;regcode_test;Candidate;true
I assume that cb_regcode is the field name, regcode_test is the value you put in the field, Candidate is the group name, true is required to unassign the group when the value is different from what specified. Is this right?

I still can not get this to work. I have a custom cb plugin that I thought my be interfering with the autogroup plugin. First, I changed the plugin order so that autogroup would be executed first, then I disabled my custom plugin. Still no luck. Anything else I should try?

No, is not a problem related to other extensions. Current Auto Group version works only with single value fields. I'm building a new version that works also with multi values fields, like multi check box.
I will release 1.6 in a couple of hours, and you will be able to do what you need.
