changing links on my new site that refer to my old was created by derekk
I tried a few but none worked even in htaccess as a redirect.

I want any link anywhere on my site showing or going to www.oldsite.com/newarticle to now go to just /newarticle

Hi,
is the www.oldsite.com the same domain that includes pages with links? If not, there is NO WAY to prevent the browser (client side) to open the link, once it is delivered to the client. The only option could be to replace the link BEFORE to delivery the content to the browser (e.g. with a custom system plugin).
